Fellow Nestorbulus,
good news, after a summer hiatus
#Geomob is back with an event on the
19th of November at UCL. I’ll be seizing the opportunity to speak about
Mapstraction, an open source javascript library we use on Nestoria.
Long time readers will recall that we
sponsored the original development of Mapstraction over three years ago. We and many other websites have been reaping the benefits ever since. Recently a new version of Mapstraction (mxn v2) was developed to be faster, lighter, cleaner, and more easily extendable. We made the switch a few months ago with great results. I’ll be discussing the details of why to use Mapstraction generally and the benefits of v2 specifically. Many thanks to all the developers who have contributed over the years. Every Nestoria user benefits.
We look forward to seeing you at #Geomob!
Fellow Nestorinaks,
a few weeks ago we had the pleasure of sponsoring an
east London gathering of #geomob and minibar. Our CTO Mike seized the opportunity to take the stage and thrill the crowd with his thoughts about “The Tyranny of the Box”. For those that couldn’t make it, we’re pleased to offer a recording here:
Based on the comments we received afterwards it seems the talk was well received, which will hopefully stimulate an interesting discussion about the pros and cons of text based querying of geographic data versus other interfaces, while hopefully not over-inflating Mike’s obvious desire to one day drop this internet nonsense, grab the mic, and become the baddest MC in all of EC2
Many thanks to everyone who attended – the mob was out in full force – for the interesting presentations and resulting discussions. A full overview of all the speakers and podcasts is available
over on SkillsMatter – many thanks to them for recording everything.
Enjoy!
Fellow Nestorfriends,
another chance to see the Nestoria team in the flesh is coming up. We’re delighted to announce we’ll be presenting at the upcoming
#Geomobevent Friday March 27th at the Old Truman Brewery in east London. Big thanks to our ex-collaborator
Chris Osborne for organizing.
We do all sorts of geodata wrangling here at Nestoria. In the past at various techie events we’ve spoken about the technical challenges of geocoding and i18n or described some of our experiments with OpenStreetMap. We’re unsure of what exactly to present at this event, so we call upon you, dear friends, to please let us know (
via twitter, in the comments here, or via our
feedback form ) which piece of the Nestoria geo system you’d be most interested in hearing us present about.
Regardless, if the past #Geomob events are any indicator, it is certain to be an informative and entertaining gathering. This month #Geomob is partnering with the good folks behind
Minibar to broaden the audience. I’m particularly pleased to see that we’ll be sharing the lineup with two past Nestoria interviewees:
Andy Allan of
OpenCycleMap and
Nick Black now of
CloudMade.
We look forward to seeing you there. Many thanks to the organizers.
