Nestoria sponsors State of the Map 2010

Fellow Nestorographers,

For the fourth year in a row, Nestoria will be sponsoring State of the Map, the annual OpenStreetMap conference. This year's event will be from July 9th - 11th in Girona, Spain. To my knowledge we are the only company to be a four time sponsor, a fact of which we're very proud!

Likewise the OSM community should be immensely proud of the progress and innovation over the last four years. The 250,000th user recently registered, edits and updates flow into the map at record pace, and more and more the map has become an input into projects and businesses. Some great examples showcased at the recent WhereCampEU are OffMaps (if you are travelling abroad and not using OffMaps you are wasting money) and Skobbler. OSM is turning up in more and more places and being used by major brands.

The true power of crowdsourcing was displayed this January during the terrible earthquake in Haiti. If you aren't familiar with the amazing response of the OSM community to the disaster, I recommend you take a look at this amazing visualisation from our friends at itoWorld!, it's a phenomenal story.

For all of these reasons we're delighted to once again associate the Nestoria brand with OSM by sponsoring this year's SOTM - not least because the conference will be held in one of our key markets: Spain. Last year's conference in Amsterdam was a great showcase of the breadth and depth of the global community, and our Spanish hosts will be hard pressed to put on a better event.

We look forward to seeing everyone there!

BTW - if you're worried about the travel costs there are scholarships available from the OSM Foundation of which I'm very proud to be a member - despite the lunacy of the OSMF mailing lists.
