Fellow Nestorpudlians,
Continuing in our series of posts looking back on the last year we thought we’d highlight the various conferences and events we spoke at over the last year. As you can perhaps surmise from this blog, we’re keen to get the message out about Nestoria. Please let us know if there are any events you’d like to see us at in 2008.- In April our very own engineering superstar MTM held a lightening talk about geocoding at Oxford Geek Night. Great events for anyone technically minded and in the Oxford area.
- In May Nestoria was honoured to be the only start up invited to speak at Google’s London Developer day. Our CTO, Mike, presented an overview of the technical challenges of moving from a mashup to a business. You can find his slides on slideshare.
- Several members of the technical team supervised our first quasi official hack contest, generously hosted by the BBC and Yahoo! in June. Also that month I spoke on a panel at the mashup* “on Location” event. Both events showed there are a lot of creative people out there working hard on the next generation of internet (and mobile) services.
- Following the launch of our Facebook applications in the early summer, we were proud to host London’s first Facebook Developers meeting in July.
- In late August the Nestoria engineering team flew off to attend a very enjoyable and educational YAPC::Europe
- A few weeks later in September I was invited to speak at AGI 2007. My slides are available on slideshare. The event was most interesting for the discussion of ‘neo’ versus ‘paeleogeography’ and their relevance to each other, a topic I explored in my own talk.
- The year closed with Nestoria sponsoring and sending four speakers to the 2007 London Perl Workshop. London has a great perl community, and it was a good chance to talk about some of the technical lessons we’ve learned while working on Nestoria. Slides are available after the link.
Here’s a photo from the event. Technical maestro Spiros has the crowd on the edge of their seats with a captivating tale of the peril and promise of split testing!
